Tasharman – Ahlat

Selçuklu tarihine doğru bir rota

A quick transfer takes you back to Taşharman. From there, you walk across the open plain, following little-used dirt roads. The route takes you through the village of Yeniköprü before passing above the Ahlat Sazlığı, where there are many water birds, especially in spring. You enter Ahlat through the Selçuk Valley, which has a hill-top citadel on the left and a Selçuk stone arched bridge and various caves in the valley bottom. You then pass through the impressively high carved headstones of the Selçuk Cemetery, and cross the main road, passing the Ulu Kümbet before entering the traditional neighbourhood enclosed by the walls of Ahlat Castle. The houses and gardens here seem not to have changed since Evliya Çelebi visited in 1655.
